I read Dr Gundry’s The Plant Paradox and recommended it to a relative of mine, but later wrote to her to ask her to ignore it as other dietary professionals had said that legumes are a healthy source of food, and their lectins can even benefit our health. However, it is easy to be mislead when the author/s of food and nutrition books are MDs, and their readers are interested, enthusiastic, gullible, and not truly knowledgeable about the science.
Wow. That is really too bad. Dr. Hall was one of the most consistent skeptics I've read, having read her in Skeptic mag, on her blog and at SBM (before the threw her in the ditch). She was kind in her writing while still being clear and uncompromising. I (almost) grew up reading her in the 90s.
If Dr. Hall had been more thorough in her investigations she wouldn't have written this. " Meat contains things that we know are bad for our health, like saturated fats,..." https://www.skepdoc.info/is-meat-poison-is-fat-the-antidote/ Everything else in the article was accurate.
In his Science-Based Medicine writeup about Dr. Hall, Steven Novella said, "during the last few years Harriet suffered from declining health, including heart failure and arrhythmias." https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/in-memoriam-dr-harriet-hall/
Sad to say, this is to be expected if one follows American Heart Association recommendations to swap saturated fats for linoleic acid. If one Googles varicose veins linoleic acid, an article come up that explains how high linoleic acid intake causes varicose veins. If one Googles varicose veins heart attack risk PubMed, articles appear, one of which links varicose veins to reduced risk of Coronary Heart Disease. Other articles link varicose veins to increased risk of congestive heart failure or all cause mortality.
When I Googled Harriet Hall linoleic acid, Harriet Hall Arachidonic acid, and Harriet Hall endocannabinoid system, I found no indication that she was ever aware of issues regarding excessive linoleic acid and arachidonic acid intake. For more on this, Google saturated fat endocannabinoid system.
Alice,
Kudos for continuing to learn and listen, recognize you were mislead and make a correction.
Wouldn't it be great if we could all do that?
Unfortunately, MD attached to a name does not guarantee credibility and recognizing authentic science is difficult

RIP Harriet Hall, I too admired her writing but I do sadly wonder if she was not sceptical enough💔💔

such a loss that saddens me immensely. she wrote clearly and directly for us non-specialists.
