Thank You!
Your Paid Subscriptions Have Boosted The Skeptical Cardiologist transiently to #2 Rising in Health and Wellness (1).
On August 25 of this year, the skeptical cardiologist started adding a paywall to most new Substack articles.
Since then, many of you have signed up to be paid subscribers.
I’d like to thank you for your generous response.
It has reinforced for me that I have a substantial base of readers who consider my writing worthwhile. This, in turn, has motivated me to up my writing game and volume.
I didn’t realize until a few days ago that when a reader signs up for a paid subscription, they have the option of leaving me a message.
I stumbled across the Substack tab of these responses and was very gratified and humbled to read the comments. I plan to write a personal response to these in the next few weeks.
Substack gives you an option to make an image from the comments and I presume these images are to promote your Substack.
I’m not terribly excited about posting these elsewhere on social media.
If posting them here seems a tad self-aggrandizing, I agree but I also feel they can help potential subscribers better understand what they are in for and what other subscribers appreciate about TSC.
Here’s a sampling to wet your whistle. If this goes well I’ll post some more
These graphics are kind of irritatingly large, aren’t they, especially when downloaded in the “vertical” format like below
I’ve redacted full names because I’m not sure everyone will be on board with seeing their comments broadcast on social media.
Here’s another comment (from AnonC) I just copied and pasted:
“Love your work! Pellucid yet information-rich. I’m an LP(a) inheritor, 66F, w/ lovely low cholesterol numbers (total: 140, & all ratios ideal). After bad chest pain & weakness in 2022, was investigated: no blockages upon cardiac cath w/only 2 spots of 10-15% lamination, but an fMRI showed a bad case of myocarditis, of unknown cause. Resolved in 2024 (we hope). Thanks for your informative wit!”
Now I have another contender for my tombstone!
And finally, from RH, a comment that really warms the cockles of my heart:
“I’m a 65 year old retired surgeon and I am doing my best to optimize my health. Your contributions are well written and grounded in the literature coupled with years of clinical practice. Last time I looked that is pretty much the definition of evidence based medicine. I am happy to move into the paid subscriber category, I look forward to your next contribution. Thanks for your great work!”
Pellucidly Yours,
-ACP
Speaking of paid perks, if any paid subscriber would like 2 free tickets to see Chest Fever play live at the legendary Belly Up Tavern in beautiful Solana Beach tomorrow night, let me know.
Alas, all the original members of The Band are deceased.
(1) To be honest, this is a dubious distinction and a very transient one.
Substack looks at the rate of rise in paid subscriptions (exact calculation is proprietary) to determine rising status. Some say this is updated every 15 minutes so I could drop off the list tomorrow.
High total paid subscriptions get you a ranking on the “bestseller” list.
Also, please note I am listening to the “Rest is History” podcast. Episode 3 of Elizabeth I ends with quite a cliffhanger as she gets imprisoned in the Tower of London by her sister, Mary!

Really appreciate your stuff, doc.
Congratulations from the Skeptical Family Physician!
